Chad Nicholson
PRCA Announcer & Voice Talent
When it comes to excitement, PRCA Rodeo Announcer Chad Nicholson is right in the middle of it helping to make it all happen. For over 17 years he has been entertaining and educating rodeo fans from coast to coast and border to border maintaining a busy schedule annually.
A native Texan, Chad now makes his home in the Central California farming community of Exeter with his wife Jennifer, but credits his Texas roots for initially spawning his affection of the sport. A former contestant himself, he has accomplished much during his 17 year announcing career. From being selected to announce 9 PRCA Circuit Finals Rodeos to the prestigious Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo, he has always maintained one simple philosophy, “Above all, have fun!”
Chad has enjoyed many accolades throughout his long career. He has been the voice of the Rooftop PRCA Rodeo in Estes Park, CO for the past 10 years and the rodeo was selected as the 2003, 2006, and 2008-09 PRCA Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. The Red Desert Round Up PRCA Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming and the Black Hills Round Up PRCA Rodeo in Belle Fourche, South Dakota also received first time nominations under his deep baritone voice. “I am just one spoke in the wheel that makes the production happen. I’m privileged work with an outstanding group of people from the committees to the stock contractor that believe teamwork makes the dream work.”
In 2007 he entered into a new venture with 4 time World Champion and Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Bareback Rider Marvin Garrett to be the live and television voice of the Professional Roughstock Series which is currently airing on the new Blue Highway TV Network and online at www.professionalroughstock.com. “You take the top bucking horses and bulls in North America and match them up with the top cowboys in the world for thousands of dollars in prize money and it is a match made in heaven for me as an announcer,” Chad said. “Sometimes I can’t believe that I actually get paid to do this,” he added.
There are many aspects of Professional Rodeo that keep Chad traveling thousands of miles each year. But probably the most important elements to him are the many friends made along the way and the patriotic atmosphere that naturally exists in rodeo. Being a United States Marine Corps Reserve Veteran, Chad prides his announcing ability on his powerful, patriotic openings. “The Rodeo Cowboy is one of the last free-spirits left in America today”, he says, “and we never will forget who gives us the opportunity to carry on such a great tradition that truly reflects our country’s heritage.” He added, “There are really no scripts to my openings, I just speak from the heart letting pure emotion drive the moment.” And pure emotion coupled with his distinctive voice is exactly what you will get from start to finish of every performance he announces.
In addition to his announcing schedule, Chad produces the industry’s top rated rodeo announcer school. He, along with legendary and Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Announcer Bob Tallman, teach aspiring announcers the craft and business, while helping current announcers sharpen their skills. He is also an internationally known voice talent. From his home studio, he produces voice over projects, radio, and TV commercials for clients worldwide.
